It bears repeating: the failure to study God’s word and the Catechism is not a minor failing, but a serious one. God knows our weaknesses, but we must also show a genuine desire to learn His word and make an effort to apply it.

If we are weak, God knows and sees it, but there has to be something we can do too. For instance, studying can be tough, and we might fail to do it well, but at least we try. Prayer can be difficult, but again, we try and sometimes stumble through it. And what about Mass? Sometimes it can be challenging to go, but we do it anyway, albeit with difficulty. If we remain weak, never attempting to study, pray, or go to Mass, what can we hope for?

When we are weak and take action, even with small steps, God gives us more responsibilities and increases His grace in us. In a few years, we may no longer face the same difficulties; we will fly to prayer, Mass, and study with ease. But new challenges will arise for us to conquer. At least we will keep bringing our best to God while striving to improve what we offer. We cannot continue giving the same imperfect service to God without making an effort to improve it.

When we offer our imperfect sacrifices, God makes them whole and blesses us. But we must bring something, no matter how flawed. As we make the effort, God blesses us and helps us improve. But we must begin somewhere, or we are deceiving ourselves about our own spiritual growth.
